Production Base for Liquid Crystal Blend Constructed in Taiwan
Expansion of Liquid Crystal Supply System

Chisso Corporation (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President: Shunichi Okada), in order to respond to the continuously expanding Taiwan LCD industry, has started construction of a production base for liquid crystal blend in Taiwan. Combined with alignment films and overcoats of the Chisso Korea Hyeongok plant (Pyeongtaek, Kyonggi-Do), completed in the previous month, supply systems of LCD and LCD-related materials in the three countries of Taiwan, Korea, and Japan are ready to cater to the needs of consumers as a total solution provider of liquid crystals.

On this occasion, Chisso will construct a new plant in Tainan Science Park, import liquid crystal products manufactured in Japan, and ship out blend products to match the needs of local users. In Taiwan, investment for next generation panels is fully in progress, and demand for liquid crystals is likely to increase more than ever. Contingently, in order to accelerate direct access with users and to achieve capacity reinforcement, improvement in technical service to consumers, and strengthening cost competitiveness, establishment of the present production base has been launched. Completion of the Tainan liquid crystal blend plant is scheduled in September, 2006.

The Korea plant completed earlier has already started full-scale production and is adjusting the supply system for alignment films and overcoats to leading LCD manufacturers in Korea. The gross investment amount of the Korea plant combined with the Taiwan plant is estimated to reach approximately 5 billion yen. Hereafter, while taking advantage of the respective production merits in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, Chisso will contribute to the further development of LCD industries based in Asia.
