January 6, 2005

TOPICS
"SANITA-KUN for coliform bacteria" as a culture medium for detecting microorganisms proprietary to Chisso Corporation has been certified according to the Performance Tested Method (PTM) by the AOAC Research Institute in the United States.

[SANITA-KUN]
"SANITA-KUN" is a sheet-type culture medium for detecting microorganisms prepared by using non-woven fabrics. According to the standard method for inspecting the microorganisms, agar media are used to start preparing the culture medium. However, "SANITA-KUN" includes the medium in itself to produce a great advantage of needing no labor for separately preparing the medium.

Moreover, due to the sheet shape, "SANITA-KUN" can be applied to various inspection methods. For example, curved surfaces or grooves can be inspected by wiping the target areas. Furthermore, "SANITA-KUN" needs little storage space also as a major advantage of the sheet shape.

"SANITA-KUN" has been widely used by centering on food processing plants as the product by which the microorganisms can be easily and quickly inspected under the circumstances where the importance of conducting voluntary inspection for microbial contamination is intensified, particularly in recent years.

"SANITA-KUN" is listed as the product which can be used for the voluntary inspection of microbial contamination in the newest edition of "Food Sanitation Inspection Guideline" compiled under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

[AOAC]
The AOAC (Association of Analytical Community) is the organization established by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1884 to have the Japanese section also in our country. The AOAC verifies the analytical methods with extreme strictness. Therefore, any analytical methods verified to be effective by the AOAC are automatically applied substantially as the official method in the United States. Moreover, the analytical methods are applied as the official method even in most of foreign countries.

[Performance equivalent to U.S. official method]
"SANITA-KUN for coliform bacteria" supplied from Chisso Corporation is approved to be equivalent for the performance for detecting the coliform bacteria by the AOAC Research Institute as the affiliated organization of the AOAC, in comparison with the official US FDA-BAM method. "SANITA-KUN" has been officially certified as the Performance Tested Methods (PTM).

According to this certification, "SANITA-KUN for coliform bacteria" can serve as the product in accordance with the official method for detecting microorganisms, along with "SANITA-KUN for general live bacteria" approved by the AOAC Research Institute in the same manner, in 2001. "SANITA-KUN" can serve as the product that we can recommend for the customers around the world to use with a sense of security.
