Comprehensive cooperation agreement relating to joint research activities

Gunma University, Faculty of Engineering (Dean of Faculty of Engineering: Shigeo Homma), The National University Corporation, and Chisso Corporation (President: Shunichi Okada) carried out the joint research by each laboratory in the past. In order to expand this joint research activity and to establish the joint research system having a further wider range and high mobility, both partners have joined up with the comprehensive cooperation agreement relating to joint research and development activities.

Gunma University, Faculty of Engineering, ranks high worldwide in various ranges of fields of proprietary technologies such as chemical and polymer materials fields developed from basic technologies on fiber and dyeing cultivated for many years, biochemistry fields aiming at biological analog systems, electronic materials fields supporting the arts of present to future through electrons and quanta, and mechanical and chemical engineering fields.

Meanwhile, Chisso has the history of starting, first in Japan, manufacture of octanol, high content compound fertilizers, super high purity silicon, and others. Chisso aggressively develops the businesses in the fields including petrochemical related materials such as polypropylene, plasticizers and synthetic fibers. In recent years, Chisso more aggressively develops the businesses in the fields of specialty chemicals, biomaterials, life chemicals and electronic information display materials. In particular, Chisso has the experiences of practically applying the fruits of research and development and operating the businesses in wide fields such that kinds of display materials including liquid crystal are used as cutting-age materials leading the world.

This time, Gunma University, Faculty of Engineering, and Chisso have agreed to promote the joint research developments to take further steps with each other under the judgment that both partners can promote the joint research developments in wide ranges because both partners have many keywords common to themes for research including information materials chemistry, fibers technology, polysaccharides, silicon and others.

According to concluding the agreement, significant social contributions are believed to be achievable under the expectation that practical application of the fruits of basic researches in Gunma University is promoted in Chisso, capabilities of both partners are further brushed up, and commercialization of the fruits is accelerated.

Contents of the agreement (including plans):

1. Promotion of joint research and research commissioning with each other
2. Interchange of researchers
3. Cooperation in educating researchers and engineers
4. Promotion of internship
5. Setup and operation of a liaison conference including both partner members.

An immediate main theme is to cooperate with each other by targeting at new electronic information display materials for a time period of 3 years.
