"Polylysine", a natural food additive, acquires Certification of US FDA

We would like to inform you that a natural food additive "Polylysine" sold by Chisso Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, C.O.O & President: Shunichi Okada) has recently acquired certification of FDA in US.

Polylysine has already been used generally as a food additive recognized its safety and advantage in Japan and Republic of Korea. Moreover, polylysine is acknowledged as a world standard food additive by this recognition of polylysine as a GRAS material of FDA in US.

Polylysine is found in nature, a material produced by microbial fermentation like miso (soybean paste) and soy (soy sauce), yoghurt or the like, and combined to a straight chain of lysine which is one of an essential amino acid. Polylysine has a function to prevent a microbe from proliferating by ionic adsorption in the microbe. By such excellent properties as various antibacterial properties and properties not to destroy flavor, polylysine has been used mainly as what improves in keeping quality of food and applied to a box lunch and prepared foodstuffs in a convenience store or the like.

Our company makes it possible to produce it industrially by making the most of our own biotechnology and has produced and sold it since 1989.

Following to the acquisition of certification of FDA, our company will start to sell on a large scale in US based on the West Coast leading by applying to rice diet, evolve in meat and bread in future and intends to develop aggressively not only US but many countries in EU including Asian countries.

Further at the same time, even in a field other than food, taking advantages of characteristics of polylysine, we will develop application to fiber, processed goods, cosmetics as an antibacterial agent excellent in kitchen and bath room application.
